Planting Bonsai brings a lot of joy and it stimulates creativity. You will not be able to achieve great results from the beginning, you might even lose some plants but, as it is with everything, you will learn in time, by practicing and exercising. Because of the possible losses, you should start by using a little tree from the forest or even a tree from a nursery.
There are a lot of Bonsai collectors that see the planting of Bonsai trees as a very important thing, something of its own. They can enjoy not only the final product, but the various steps in the development of the tree. They enjoy the step-by-step shaping of the tree, the annual rhythm of the plant, the foliation, the blossoming and the autumn coloring.
Still. sometimes you should put the possession of the Bonsai on the second plan. If a Bonsai dies, having it grown by yourself, it is not such a big financial loss. Think, instead, of what the loss would be, financially, if you would have bought an old tree, at a very high price.
This being said, our entire site is trying to help you create your own bonsai or, at least, learn to take care of one you would have bought from a nursery.
