The trees bought from a nursery may be shaped quite quickly. Most of them were grown in pots for years, thus forming a very thick root, ideal for Bonsai trees.
When you get such a Bonsai tree, first thing to do is taking the plant from the pot, removing the dirt and cutting the root so it becomes more flat. Then, you should put the plant in a pot with Bonsai soil. Soon, those plants will be moved in a flat pot. Of course, the deeper cutting of the root should be taken care of in the rest periods of the plant, during the winter, just before the foliation.
Choosing a plant from a nursery may prove to be a difficult task, as there are many types. This having in mind, it is best to carefully look for the appropriate plant. Visit the nurseries regularly and look especially for those little older plants, which are a lot more easily to be shaped. A beginner should choose a smaller plant, which a simpler and easier to shape.
When choosing a plant, use your entire criticism powers. The plants should be buried to the branches in order to be correctly taken care of.
You will carefully remove some soil around the stem in order to softly touch it. The grafting of the plant should be made so that it is not noticeable on the Bonsai tree. You should be extremely careful with the plants that have very dense branches and don’t have enough leaves on the inside. These plants must be allowed to grow leaves in the covered interior parts as well. This is especially true for the spruce fir trees. A lot more appropriate for a Bonsai tree are the sphere shaped rhododendrons that grow leaves relatively fast from the older plant. Also, it is recommended to use any of these trees: small pine trees, un-grafted maple trees, beech, spruce firs, juniper trees, un-grafted hawthorn and many others.
The collectors with experience, that want some other plants, that are a lot more difficult, should look in the nurseries.
As a conclusion, the trees in the nurseries are considered to be one of the best trees to use when starting as a Bonsai planter.
