The Raft (Ikada-buki) style is seldom found in bonsai tree collections. It is achieved using a toppled tree, settled so that the horizontal trunk will form new roots. The original branches are almost vertical and they become the new trunks.
When creating this style of Bonsai, use plants with a lot of lateral branches. All the branches on the other side of the one you chose should be removed right from the trunk. Then, you should make small cuts on the part of the main trunk without branches, so that the roots grow faster. The plant is then pushed in the soil using chequers bands.
