The correct watering of a Bonsai tree needs some experience to be done the right way. Water the plant regularly. You have to get used to water the plants when they really need to. More, you should water the trees once at the time, not all at once.
The water quantity to use depends on several factors:
- placement of the Bonsai tree;
- season;
- weather.
In the raining periods, you should not water the plants. The soil should have a dry surface until the next watering. Bonsai trees can take the rainy periods of the summer really well. Still, you may have some problems if the rain persists in the summer or fall. This is why it is recommended that the more water sensitive trees, like maples, should be covered with a plastic foil.
The Bonsai trees should not be watered too often in the seasons in which they don’t need water so much (like winter, but it depends on trees). They must be regularly watered only when the trees start blossoming. The right time in the day to water the plants in the summer is right after the dawn or immediately after the sunset. You should not water the trees during the day in the summer, since the leaves would get spots and look ugly.
The quality if the water is very important to Bonsai trees, either. The water from the public sewage system is not recommended, but it may be used to some trees, as long as it is not very cold. The calciferous water may kill the plants that use to grow in a layer of peat. If you have a little pond in the garden, you can use that water without any problems. It is even recommended, because it contains important nourishing substances and microelements that are very important for the Bonsai trees.
Correct watering
If you have few plants, you may put all of them in a tub full of water so that the roots fill with water. If you have a lot of trees, you should water the trees with a water hose or a water sprinkler. You should only water the lower side of the trees, roots included. You should not, under any circumstances, water the plant from the top. The sprinkler should have a long neck and a thin “shower”.
